High accurate 3-dimensional maps and digital elevation models, based on high resolution RGB and NIR cameras, facilitate the planning of and around powerlines. From the combination of this data we can obtain safety distances from the powerlines to any existing feature within the area of interest. These features could for instance be roads, buildings, trees and other wires. With this analysis large or inaccessible corridors of hundreds of kilometers are surveyed more economically at a much faster rate than traditional terrestrial methods. The results from this analysis give a good understanding whether some features within the safety zone are a risk to the powerlines and should be monitored.
